[00:00:00] Today we're doing the show from the tunnels of Moose Jaw And there's plenty of free booze down here, eh? Welcome back to another episode of Shit I Told My Hairdresser Part 2 of Jason's Flu
[00:00:29] You sound a little sniffly I am, I'm a little nasally still I literally have been in bed for the past six days After we did the last episode It was, yeah, I went down And been in bed and just could not get out I think it's the bird flu That's what I was wondering, yeah Not the COVID Nope Not the regular flu I had the flu shot
[00:00:57] Bird flu, not the bird flu shot though Not the, exactly So no bird came by, give me a shot It was just like, so Someone, another bird came by, sneezed in my face And boom, bird flu Nice So I missed a week of work Are you enjoying your paid time off? What? No, I get unpaid time off is what I get Oh, okay So I, no, do you get paid time off?
[00:01:27] No I pay for my chair I pay for my chair So if I'm not there generating money I still have to pay to make sure that I have a chair when I do get back Yeah Otherwise they're going to give it to somebody else Right That's just how it works It's like daycare People get mad when their kids are sick or they're missing You know, but it's like you're reserving that spot for your child To make sure that when they're better They can come back and they still have that spot Otherwise you're going to give it to somebody else Yeah Yeah
[00:01:54] You know, and that's exactly how hair salons are as well though too You know, it's like you have that chair You have to You go on vacation You have to pay for that chair You're sick You have to pay for that chair You need that day off because you're going to the doctor You still have to pay for the chair That's just how it works Well, it sounds really unfair, you know Oh, there's a lot of people that out there that find these kind of things unfair That's for sure So
[00:02:24] You know what? That's how it works And think of it as your apartment You have to pay rent Yeah Or my mortgage, yeah Your apartment Even if you go out of the country on vacation Yeah You're not using it Well, why should I pay my rent? You know Because it has all your stuff in it And you would like to continue living there, right? Exactly You have a contract with your landlord Yeah I have a contract with a bank
[00:02:53] That says I will pay my mortgage every single month That's the contract Yeah I have a contract with the salon owner Saying that I will pay my rent every single month That's why I have the chair That's why I have access to the shampoo bowls And to the salon And everything that I need You know, but I You only have certain days Correct So you do it like per day or per week Exactly So those other days
[00:03:22] I work four days a week And the other three days Someone else has that chair Because they're paying for three days Okay, yeah Fair enough That's how that works You know, so the owner would like to go through and make money Like having a roommate That's what we're in business for, you know Like having a roommate that you never see Yeah Exactly So for me, it's a win-win You know what I mean? I get the days that I want That I want to work And I can work from midnight To midnight if I wanted to I have those 24 hours
[00:03:51] I can come in during that time You know But I have certain hours that I do work You don't work at midnight? At midnight? No Maybe you should I need a little sleep I need a little sleep Someone would want to Maybe someone wants to come in though Yeah, cool They can come in when I'm working I have banker's hours Oh You know, I work nine to six That's the hours that I work I have a clientele that comes in during those hours I'm booked
[00:04:20] I'm happy They're happy Okay That's it But what I have been seeing is People have been complaining They're getting on the TikTok Oh, people like to complain about anything Yes That's something I've realized If you can think of it Someone will complain about it Exactly Yeah So it's like where you used to live in Dallas They complained about The smell of bread in the morning No Who complains about the smell of baking bread?
[00:04:49] That's like the most amazing smell in the world I know what you mean That was my neighborhood Yeah And it was the most amazing smell in the world Yes And someone did what? Sued? Sued The Mrs. Baird's Yeah And they won? Yeah And they had to stop Yeah Right I think that's the reason you can't resist bread You love bread Yeah Love it Yeah I love it There's a book sitting on my table right now Like how to make bread
[00:05:19] There you go So yeah But people are complaining about the Well, here's what's happening here in Seattle The big companies this year have told everyone You got to come back to work five days a week Yeah So The way it always has been Yep This January Everyone's like trying to scramble to go through and readjust their childcare Readjust their schedules Okay And so here we are now in February Mm-hmm And everyone's kind of getting adjusted to everything
[00:05:49] And they're like, wait a minute I can't come into the hair salon On Wednesdays Or on Thursdays anymore Yeah Because I have to be at work between the hours of nine to five Yep So And then A lot of hair salons right now We're only A lot The majority of the salons that I'm seeing right now are busy Tuesday through Friday So A lot of hair salons are not busy on Saturdays anymore
[00:06:18] They're not busy anymore That's so weird It is weird Yeah I think it's weird We grew up in that Saturday Yeah Always busy Saturday was always The busiest Like You may hardly have anyone all week And Saturday's like solid And there's a waiting list So Exactly Not anymore I actually have a feeling It'll probably will go back to that Maybe not as crazy as it was You know Correct But
[00:06:47] People will have to work on Saturdays again And those The ones who never did Are gonna hate it But who cares about them But here's the thing though There's people out there Who don't Who still don't have to They're still booked Wednesday Through Friday Or Tuesday through Friday They're still booked So they don't have to But they're having clients Getting pissed off That they're not coming in on Saturdays Because it's not conducive To their schedule now Yeah So people are starting to Get onto the TikTok
[00:07:16] And they're starting to complain And they're saying I have to use PTO To go get my hair done Or I might have to go through And use a sick day PTO What is that? Yeah Paid time off Paid time off Paid Oh I said that earlier Paid time off yet I didn't know I had initials You know Yeah People like to say That Yes PTO Oh god Or they have to use a sick day To come inside the hair salon And get their hair done God forbid You know
[00:07:46] What about the people I mean I have certain things that I do That I want to go and see An expert on something Say They only have an appointment Like on a Thursday I have to take that time off I use my U PTO Unpaid time off In fact I'm actually paying My chair My rent So I'm at Money is actually coming Going away from me Yeah You know I need to go To see this expert On whatever it is Whether it be my eyes Or I need to see a doctor And he only has time that day
[00:08:15] You know Right Yeah And he You know But this Here's the thing This is a luxury service Your color Is not a necessity You don't have to have A highlight done You don't have to You can cut your own hair I've seen some Hair emergencies And And we've covered that What I mean Is just walking around It's like They need With their hair Yeah Their hair done It's not like a luxury For them It's like It's how make me look at that
[00:08:45] Hair color is a luxury Okay Hair color is a luxury Usually Yeah Right So But here's the thing You have Accessibility To pay time off To sit pay To take the day off To go get your hair done You have that luxury Right To do that It's you know And people are like Not everybody does I don't have to So I can't I can't I don't want to use my Paid time off But you're getting paid
[00:09:15] You're getting paid To get your hair done What sort of entitlement Do they really have Seriously They just think That all of their Their life Someone should pay For their way Yes Or everything These are like Like soiled little brats Who are you talking about That's it right there Exactly What ages are these People Usually What I'm saying Is about 24 To like 35 Okay Well that Right Through there You know Very entitled Very bratty Yeah Like you should be doing What I need to do
[00:09:45] What is that Is that Gen Z Then It's like Gen Z Years Like late millennial Like a little of the both Yeah Yeah A little bit of mixture Of the both You know what I mean But what I kept on hearing As well as too Is like You are providing a service You need to go through And pay attention What My needs You are providing a service That's exactly I've heard it over And over again Every single time I scroll to the next one Change the tone Yeah
[00:10:14] I'm providing a service For you Exactly So Think about that So you need to go through And change Like I I can't believe that I had to change my schedule It's like wait a minute Your schedule is the one That changed Not ours So it tells you A lot about How they think of Hairdressers They are Yes They might as well They would think of them Same as like Anyone beneath them That's what they want to So the yard maintenance Guys
[00:10:44] I don't want them To come too early They're sleeping So change Right Change their schedule You know It's like I don't want to hear Lawn mower While I'm sleeping This is my schedule Change yours Well They have like 30 other houses 30 other yards To mow So Why yours You know Why are you special But here's the thing Their schedule Is the one who That changed Right Not ours So now They're expecting us
[00:11:13] To change our schedule Because You are providing a service That I need In their heads That they think That it's like Something that Needs to be done When it actually Doesn't Number one Number two We're not your servant We don't just come in That's what it is Service Servant Yeah They look at you Like that You know Do you know How many times Like I wish At 10 at night I could go To the post office Or the DMV Ah
[00:11:43] Right Because it's easier On me You know It's like Why don't They stay open Late for me You know Yeah This is not how It works Okay And Exactly If you want it To change Then Go work at the Post office Or something I don't know Stay open No but Have you ever Had that client Where they just Can't get in And they go Well why can't You come in On your day Off Yeah I'm like Um No I have a family Number one I had plans I'm not coming
[00:12:13] In on my day Off just because You need a haircut Or you need a color Oh you want to What I will At the right price So Yeah And I have to Explain it to people I'm like listen If I come in On my day off Number one I have to make sure There's a chair Available Right I have to pay For that chair As well So now I'm coming out Of pocket For renting That chair For the entire Day Yeah Bringing all My stuff in They don't have An hourly rate No Yeah
[00:12:43] They don't This is not A hotel In Anaheim Back in the 70s Yeah Yeah Exactly But it's like They don't think Of like hey We have to pay For someone Who has the key To open the door Do I have to Pay for someone To open the door Do I have to You know Do I have to Go get the key Not like that I got to get Ready for work I got to drive To you Do your hair And then drive home There goes Three to four hours Of my day At least So I'm like Almost like a quarter Of my day
[00:13:12] Is going to be wasted Just come do one person's hair And you will want Me to come in on my day off And charge you The exact same price That's not how it works You're losing money At that point I'm losing money And they don't see it that way You mean you can't just Come in and do one haircut No I can't They don't know How it works And they Don't always have to You know It's like You have a schedule And they know What it is They just need to Follow that You know It's like I want to
[00:13:41] I think the point The point is They don't even care To understand Right They don't care Yeah They just really are And tied a little brats Anyway And we're back All right everyone So thanks for Joining us again Here on the second part Of this We also want to go through And thank everyone Who has actually gone to Wherever you get Your favorite podcasts
[00:14:11] And gave us a rating It really helps us Grow the show And get it to A lot more other people So if you haven't done so Go through and smash up Those likes Give us a rating I want to thank everyone Recently for actually Adding comments To us To Apple podcasts And Spotify Anywhere you get Your stuff at Really appreciate it It really helps So If you guys don't mind Stop what you're doing Right now After the show And go and give us A little rating I'll do that
[00:14:41] Would you do that Jack? I will For you Oh thanks Tell me how much You love my voice No actually me For me That's what I meant to say Yeah Alright so I am going to ask you A question here Jack What Would Make you not Go back to A business Whether it be like A restaurant Or Oh so many things Okay Restaurant
[00:15:11] That's really my big thing Is like I'm so Picky about it Yeah The food Obviously You know That's the worst If the food is off Or just not good Or whatever No way Sure Say that the food Is amazing And this has recently Happened to me Food is amazing That's what I'm more Interested in If the food's amazing Right What else would Kind of bug you About Okay You wouldn't go back Well cleanliness Is one thing
[00:15:40] Yeah If their bathroom Is dirty Especially the bathroom Yeah Yeah And the reason I don't like that Is those are the Places everyone Sees And if they are Neglecting that What else We're not seeing The back of the Kitchen there So maybe that's Filthy too We're eating Yeah So That's one thing
[00:16:10] That's a big thing For me The bathroom I mean Especially Where I work at You know I can't tell you How many clients Of mine Have actually Come to me To tell me About the Bathroom situation At the salon Like it's Filthy inside there There's like Pea stains Or there's like Someone blew it up And there's like Diarrhea Underneath of the Toilet seat Do you know It's a big Fucking thing You're dropping A lot of money
[00:16:39] And someone's Dropping a lot Of poop Exactly At your salon I think Cleanliness Is one And then If the Waiter Is weird In any way Okay So if Yeah We had like This weird Waiter That was Almost like Condescending You know It's like He was I don't know What it was I didn't like His attitude And He acted like
[00:17:08] He knew More than me And Like he kept Pushing the Drink And you Over to me And I don't Want one You know But he didn't Get the hint That I'm not Going to have One And so He annoyed Me Like I've Had them Where they Just walk Over and Drop off Your food And then Walk away And Oh that's The worst Maybe I need Something You know I didn't ask If I needed Anything Drives me Crazy So if It happens Once
[00:17:38] Okay If That's how The whole Experience is I don't Want more Of that Why would I do That Myself Or I've had It to Where I've Had a Waiter Come over And just Complain to Me about The place Or complain About the Restaurant Or the Chef Or the Owner And I'm Like I Came here To enjoy Myself And have An experience Not to Hear you Complain About Your Situation Here At the Restaurant Listen
[00:18:07] You know What that Is It's Somebody Sees you As a Savior And this Is a Cry for Help They are Being held hostage maybe At that Job and Paid hardly Anything They don't Get their Tips Which Oh That was Another Thing If There is A 22 Or more Percent Charge Like service Charge for A tip Or whatever Added For two People Oh
[00:18:37] That gets Me Yes Two People Okay I would Understand If it's Like a Group of Eight or More Which a Lot of Menus Have Always Had the Eight or More Certain Percentages Outed Usually It's 15 to 20 Correct Now It's Even Higher So If That is Added In Already I Will Never Return Well Here Because Who Knows Who Gets I Don't Even Know Have You Seen The Extra Line They'll Go Through And They'll Give You The
[00:19:07] Total Then They'll Give You The Service That They Want To Charge You Which Is Like 22 Then They Have A Separate Line Underneath That Saying Extra Tip Or Let's Say Tip And Thinking That You You Won't Notice And Companies Do This
[00:19:39] Anything They're Not Like Oh Hey You've Already Paid Us Oh Here's Your Money Back They Would Never Do That So This Is How These Restaurants Are Too You Know It's Like Well We Thought You Just Really Liked Our Service And No I
[00:20:09] Is Why Do Clients Not Come Back Into Salons So That's A Question For The Audience No Yeah We'd Like To Please Let Us Know Go To Our Website At Should I Told My Hairdresser Dot Com Or Send An Email At Info At Should I Told My Hairdresser Dot Com And Let Us Know Why Would You Not What Your Biggest Pet Peeve Or Why You Wouldn't Or Things You Hate But You Wouldn't Come Back To A Hair Salon And One Of The Topics I Saw Over And Over And
[00:20:39] Over Again Was The Stylist Or The Hairdresser Was Talking Shit About Other Clients So Like I Was Talking About The Waiter Talking Shit About The Owner That's One Of Things About Other Clients So You're Like Wait A Minute If You're Saying About Me Afterwards You Know That's Not A Good You What They're Doing Yeah It's It's They're Talking Shit About Someone In There
[00:21:08] Just Means That They're Giving You And Somebody Else A Break Right For The Moment Yeah Exactly But That Is Like I Don't Like That Either When I Hear
[00:21:51] And They Want To Talk About Shit Inside The Salon About Your Salon Not About Someone Else's Okay If You Want To Talk To Me I Got An Ear For You But I've Had It
[00:22:21] And Number Two I'm Like I Like Her A Lot I Don't I'm Going To Sit Here And Talk Shit About One Of My Co-workers You Know Yeah Especially With
[00:22:51] I Should Have I Should It Was Right At The Beginning Of The Appointment You Know I Mean I'm Like Fuck How Do I Defuse This Well That's How That's All He Knows How A
[00:23:21] That You Didn't Say That You Stum Ass No But I Definitely Deflected And I Was Like Listen I'm Like And I Went And I Told Her I Told The Girl Who She Was Talking About I'm Like I Would Actually Kind Of
[00:23:52] That Is One Thing As Well I And I Don't See Her Anymore After That Conversation I Didn't Give It Any Oxygen Didn't Happen I Never Saw Her Again Because I Wasn't Part Of Her Little Pity Party That She Wanted To Have You Know What It Is She Thinks That You're No Fun Yeah Exactly So Do Why By The Way I Agree But It Was That And Another Thing As Well The Two Was When A Hairstylist Trauma Dumps On Them
[00:24:22] Which I Hear That Yeah A lot And I Can't I Have To Admit I Have Done That Too I Been With My Ups And Downs With Different Things With Yeah You Know I've Done That But You Know What It Is Somebody Ask Yes That Usually Initially But Maybe They Regreted After They Ask Jack How Are You Well Let Me Tell You They Regreted It Immediately
[00:24:54] No But You Have Those Coworkers Who Have The Exact Same Story That They Tell All Week Long About Their Shitty Boyfriend How Their Mother Is Out For A Pack Of Cigarettes And Some Milk Never Came Back And So Like It It's A Rerun All Week Every Client So Their Traumas And Indication And It's Not Like They're Telling A Story Like Hey Here's
[00:25:24] Kind Of Like What Happened To Me This Week They're Actually Asking The Client Like So What Would You Do In This Situation Like Help Me Fix My Brain On What's Going On Inside Of Me You Help Me Now Well You
[00:25:59] Don't Dump All This Shit And Think That Your Clients Are Going To Have The Answers For You To Fix You All Within Like A Two Hour Three Hour Hair Session You Know Are You Going To Go Through An Email And Call Them At Home And
[00:26:31] Like Housewives Show And They Want To Be More
[00:27:01] Clam Up I Start Getting A Little Quiet Unless I Find It Interesting If I Don't Find It Interesting It's Just Too Much Kind Of Trauma For Me I Get Really Quiet And You Know The Conversation Is Over You Know What The Difference Is It's Ones Who Can They Have A Legit Issue And It's Really Interesting You're Like You're Kidding That Happened You
[00:27:38] Time For Some Of That Shit Ology So Jack Give Us Some Shit When You're Trauma Dumping Coworker Candy Candy With An I Goes On And On All Day Call It What It Is You're Watching Candy's Father Hunger Marathon Season 57 Episode Wednesday This Is In Syndication So Stay Tuned And All Those Clients Complaining About Using Their PTO And Sick Days Just To Get Their Stupid Hair Done Remember
[00:28:08] We Post Photos On Instagram And We'll Be Adding New Hashtags To Those Posts Such As Hashtag Microsoft Hashtag Company Time Hashtag OPM What The Fuck Is OPM Other People's Money Hashtag Sick Day Hashtag Hair Day Hashtag Fire Me And Finally Hashtag Stay Shitty Hey Listener Persons Thanks For Listening And
